Who is Sonrisas Perú?
It is an non-profit association established with the purpose to start, develop and implement different programs of social aid in Perú. It was founded with the goal of providing aid to children living in extreme poverty from people foreign to that reality (donors). The goal is to build a bridge (link) that will join both realities and which will make us more sensitive to the real disease of Perú: Poverty.

Become a Godfather or a Godmother of a child today so that you can help cover his/her basic needs for a year: Food, Health and Education.


How do I know my money will be used properly?
We are a serious organization with the purpose to help children with real needs. We will inform you regularly through reports via email/website about the developments of your godchild. Similarly, we will post all financial and accounting information explaining both from where the money is coming and where is being utilized.

What is a Godparentship?
It is one of the programs offered by Sonrisas Peru, by which a relationship is established between the needed child and the godparent; this godparentship was created to improve the life conditions of Peruvian children under 6 years old, to cover for the children’s food, health and education needs, through a monetary donation of US $30 per month, equivalent to only US$ 1 per day.

How do I choose my Godchild?
Look for the section Become a Godfather/Godmother in our home page and browse through the different children we have identified. Once you relate to one in particular, choose him/her as your godson/goddaughter… and let’s start to help him/her right away!

How long does the Godparent relationship last?
The godparentship program is designed for renewable one-year periods, while the child is attending the day care center in the basic pre-school stage (0 to 6 years old), and if the child is not retired by his or her parents from the day care center supported by Sonrisas Peru. In case the godparent relationship is terminated by any of these reasons, Sonrisas Peru will communicate with the godparent in a timely manner to offer him or her the possibility to support another child.

What information will I receive?
Once you establish your godparentship you will have access to a personalized account (My Account) which you will be able to access and find exclusive information about your godchild. You will find there the quarterly reports we prepare about your godchild, covering subjects such as feeding, health and education your godchild receives and the progress that he or she will be accomplishing as a consequence of your support. You will also find the report of payments you have made to date, as well as the outstanding payments according to your donation plan you had created.

Am I the only sponsor form my godchild?; Do I share him/her with somebody else?
Yes! You are the only one, unless you personally choose to share your patronage with somebody you know; that way we try to establish a commitment from the godparents to their godchild.

How does the funds get to the children?
The money is not given directly to the children, but is instead given to them in the form of school material, healthy breakfasts, vaccines, medical treatments, etc. The money that the godparents provide is exclusively given to the center attended by your godchild. Sonrisas Peru has made possible to give more than 83% of the funds raised directly to the children. The remaining balance of approximately 17% of the funds are retained by Sonrisas Peru to cover operating and administrative expenses, which include payments of administrative personnel, banking and management expenses, campaigns and advertising material, etc.

May I sponsor more than one child?
Of course! Your heart will become bigger if you help more children.

Can I make a donation for the child I support?
Any donation, as well as the economic support from the godparentship program, are given to the center where your godchild attends, maintaining in this way the services of food, health and education. For the same reasons the raised money is not given directly to the child, the special donations are not given to the child, so that Sonrisas Peru does not create differences between the kids or between their families.

Can I visit the child?
Any time, you are more than welcome!. Just let us know or contact us and we will facilitate you the necessary information to visit your supported child.

Can I write a letter to the child?
Yes, as frequently as you wish. You can do that through Sonrisas Peru’s website or using the regular post mail. To use the website, just click on the “Contact Us” link, and you will be required to provide your godparent code as the “Subject” of your message. In case you want to use the mail, we will appreciate it if you can address the letters to our offices in Lima (see address below). Once we receive your letter, we will make it available directly to your child.

We recommend not to include your mailing address in the letter or in the envelope, as this information may be used by others

Can I send presents?
We recommend not to do this. It is not good for some kids to receive presents while others don’t. In addition, packages may get lost in the mail. However, if a godparent insists in sending a present, we advice that these are things useful for their school needs, such as color pencils, books, tales, etc., which they can share with their classmates or with their siblings. It is very important that these packages are sent by ordinary mail and not by courier (DHL, Fedex, UPS, etc), given that courier mail generates customs expenses that neither Sonrisas Peru nor the day care centers can afford; in addition, courier mail obligates the organization personnel to personally go to the customs office to pick up packages.

What happens if I no longer can support my godchild?
Nothing. We would appreciate if you let us know as soon as possible if you can’t keep contributing as a godparent. We ask you that you help us find somebody else that could continue with your sponsorship. Remember that your godchild depends on you!!!

How can I submit my pledges?
You will be able to make your donations through Credit Card (Visa or MasterCard) or if you live in Peru, you may alternatively pay directly at any branch of Banco de Crédito del Perú (BCP).

If you bank with Banco de Credito in Perú, Here is how you can transfer your pledges online with no cost - Please be aware that you'll need your 6-digit password in order to transfer money online; Consult with BCP.
It is quite easy, just follow these steps:

1.- Visit www.viabcp.com, click on Operaciones en Linea. Enter your Credimas account number and your internet password.
2.- Click on Transferencias, look for "Transferencias a otras cuentas". Enter the amount to be transfered, the currency and the account to which you will be transfering the money; enter here Sonrisas Peru's account, #193-1434639-1-11, click on "Aceptar".
3.-At the next screen, verify that Sonrisas Peru appears as the beneficiary of the transaction, then enter your 6-digit password and click on "Aceptar"
4.- Then click on "Enviar Constancia", and enter here the Sonrisas Peru's email (admin@sonrisasperu.org). Click then on "Enviar Constancia", and then finish your session.
5.-Once we verify with the bank the funds, you will receive an email confirmation. You will be able to find all you payments history at My Account. Should you not reveive any comunication from us after 5 business day please Contact Us
How to submit your pledge at any Banco de Credito's branch?
It is quite easy, just follow these steps:

1.- Visit on of Bco. de Credito's branch and deposit into Sonrisas Peru's account: US$ #193-1434639-1-11 under the name of Sonrisas Perú
2.-Please write down the bank's deposit slip number. 3.- Then visit www.sonrisasperu.org web page. and click on My Account (bottom left picture). Then enter your email address and account ID
4.- Enter the bank's slip where appropriate and submit it.
5.-Once we verify with the bank the funds, you will receive an email confirmation. You will be able to find all you payments history at My Account. Should you not reveive any comunication from us after 5 business day please Contact Us
